{"id":7226,"date":"2017-05-01T17:12:18","date_gmt":"2017-05-02T00:12:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lifeandhealth.wordifysites.com\/?p=7226"},"modified":"2017-05-03T11:12:36","modified_gmt":"2017-05-03T18:12:36","slug":"the-ironic-truth-about-diet-sodas-weight-gain-is-part-of-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeandhealth.org\/lifestyle\/healthy-habits\/the-ironic-truth-about-diet-sodas-weight-gain-is-part-of-it\/177226.html","title":{"rendered":"The Ironic Truth About Diet Sodas (Weight Gain Is Part Of It)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A recent <a href=\"http:\/\/stroke.ahajournals.org\/content\/early\/2017\/04\/20\/STROKEAHA.116.016027\">study<\/a> published in the American Heart Association\u2019s journal <em>Stroke <\/em>showed a new danger with diet sodas.\u00a0In this study, people who drank diet soda (compared to people who drank none) had almost a <strong>300% increase in strokes<\/strong> and almost a <strong>300% increase in dementia<\/strong>!\u00a0What was surprising was that people who drank regular sugary sodas did <em>not<\/em> have an increased rate of stroke or dementia.\u00a0This doesn\u2019t mean to say that you should sodas; in fact, long-term regular soda consumption is associated with its own laundry list of complications: weight gain, diabetes, strokes, heart attacks\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Another interesting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/nature\/journal\/vaop\/ncurrent\/pdf\/nature13793.pdf\">study<\/a> published in <em>Nature <\/em>\u00a0showed that, due to different populations of gut bacteria, people could become more susceptible to becoming <strong>diabetics<\/strong>, even while drinking diet sodas. This was a direct consequence of the sweeteners themselves.\u00a0They estimated that 1 in 5, or 20% of the population has the type of bacteria that would convert artificial sweeteners into products that would make you more likely to develop diabetes!<\/p>\n<p>Finally, multiple studies have been done that typically show no weight loss, or even <strong>weight gain<\/strong>, when drinking no calorie diet sodas.\u00a0There are many theories on why this is the case, but basically if you are trying to lose weight by switching from sugary sodas to diet, it probably won\u2019t help much.<\/p>\n<p>So, why drink them?
